This week I'd like to make a post about dog intelligence, so what is it? Dog intelligence is their ability to learn, think and solve problems, it determines behavior and interactions of our pet animals but it is difficult to gauge as we can rarely and accurately classify certain actions of our pets as sprung from their intellect or mere animal behavior.
However, certain breeds are viewed as being "smarter" due to their capacity for obedience although the ability and willingness to learn and obey commands is not the only aspect of intelligence as other breeds can also demonstrate the same in other ways.
Which brings us to the following, according to studies there are three types of dog intelligence:
- Adaptive Intelligence (learning and problem-solving
ability). This is specific to the individual animal and is measured by
canine IQ tests.
- Instinctive Intelligence. This is specific to the
individual animal and is measured by canine IQ tests.
- Working/Obedience Intelligence. This is breed dependent. Which will also be the ranking factor of this post as the other 2 types depend solely on the individual furry creatures.
